Our Namesake
The C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience is named in honor of Cornelius Vander Starr, an entrepeneur who founded a family of insurance and financial service companies now known as American International Group. In 1955 Mr. Starr founded the Starr Foundation, a philanthropic organization which makes grants in a number of areas, including education, medicine and healthcare, human needs, public policy, culture, and the environment.
